More Of This, Please x March 2024
You're reading GET IT TOGETHER, a weekly newsletter that covers punk/indie/pop music, visual art, and related topics. I speak from a queer-feminist perspective about things that are often adjacent to my own creative practice.

We're a month into an epic tour with Alkaline Trio and Drug Church and it's both an amazing and disorienting experience. We're having the best time, while also fighting exhaustion, close van quarters, and the chaos of the outside world. I'm not sure what to make of it all, and how to square having fun on stage as things feel so heartbreaking outside of our little tour bubble. I'm very grateful and thankful to be here, but do struggle to find the good points outside of getting on stage every night.
So here are a few things I'm hanging on to as bright spots right now. Add your own in the comments section that I recently enabled!
eSims for Gaza
One direct way you can help people in Gaza is by purchasing eSims to enable communication and digital connection. According to eSims for Gaza, purchasing eSims allows people within Gaza to connect to the outside to communicate with their families and also to show whatβs happening within Gaza. Go here to find out how you can help.
Venue Dogs
Surprising no one, I love meeting dogs on tour. Especially when they're already backstage, ready to chill with bands. It's a special kind of emotional support animal that's around to hang out with touring folks at shows. We've met a few one this tour, and there's really nothing more I need right now than a hug from a big fluffly malinois mix.
Kyle Kinane: Dirt Nap
Tired, hungry, and in need of some cheering up, my go-to is typically stand up comedy. So what better than Kyle Kinane's new special, Dirt Nap. When I need a way to laugh at myself, my friends, conservatives, whoever, Kyle can make it happen.
Alkaline Trio - Bad Time
You'd think that 20-something shows in to this tour I might get tired of listening to Alkaline Trio but you would be incorrect! Specifically, one of their new tunes Bad Time is a standout. Keeps getting stuck in my head. Maybe it's also because I miss my partner and a chorus that repeats "I really want to talk to you" hits home. Listen below!
