A few weeks ago I played a couple songs at Jonah Ray's Scratch Pad comedy night in Los Angeles. I was prepared for a solid lineup including headliner Patton Oswalt (more on that in a sec) but then Marc Maron and Kumail Nanjiani ALSO walked in, causing time and space to no longer operate as I thought they did.

I played two songs, got a chuckle from folks, and sat down before Patton fucking Oswalt took the stage.

Sure. Why not?

I've been listening to Patton Oswalt for ::redacted:: years 👵. In the van. In my car. Around the house. I cannot enter the city of Burbank without hearing him say it in my head. Any time I pass a KFC: cue “failure pile in a sadness bowl.” You get it.

So when I was able to play a couple songs and then sit and watch him on stage, you can imagine there was a big part of me thinking wtf is happening right now?

Comedy specials got me through a lot of tours that were rough, to say the least. When I first started touring, my bandmates and I didn't always know how to talk to one another. But you know what we COULD do? We could quote Patton Oswalt's "Feelin' Kinda Patton." Like the back of our hand.
