More of this, please x April 2025

You're reading GET IT TOGETHER, a weekly newsletter about punk/indie/pop music and visual art from a queer-feminist perspective, exploring things that are adjacent to my own creative practice.

This is a free post, but you can support my work for $5/month by becoming
a newsletter supporter or sharing this with a friend. Thanks for reading.

I feel a specific type of dread when listening to the news or turning on the radio. I don't want to hear what's next. With friend after friend telling me how funding has been pulled or the cost of goods has skyrocketed, I'm not sure how my community can cope. I'm not sure of anything, really.

What I do know is that people in my life are doing good work, making great things, and trying to make people feel at least a tiny bit better.

For your consideration, here are a few things for this month's edition of More Of This, Please.

Support Small Businesses

I've mentioned all of these places before but now more than ever, small businesses need your support. Especially those that are women and queer run.

  • Hinterland Empire - I've been drinking my morning coffee from their "Women Don't Owe You Shit" mug.
  • Minna - After 12 years, they're closing their doors and my dear friend Sara could use your help finding homes for the items they have left. Make your space beautiful and cozy with her beautiful textiles.
  • Tiny Deer - Your apartment needs more tiny disco balls. Trust me.

Portland is Portlanding

I recently spent a week in Portland, OR surrounded by queers and cherry blossoms and wow did I feel like I fit right in. I ate amazing vegan food at spots like Feral, Mirisata, and Norah. I drank great coffee and took Lucy for a walk up Mt Tabor park with a friend before a big picnic. I met the loveliest people, all of whom tried to convince me to move there. I wish that were in the cards. It's nice to know that place exists when I need it because I really did need that. I hope you take the time to find your place like that.

Rodeo Boys

I finally saw Rodeo Boys live this weekend and am immediately in love. One of those indie-punk sets that just hits you in the chest. I dunno why, but my reactions was just OH SHIT. They have a new record out next week, and you can listen to Sam's Song below.

Without You by Appleby

Sustaining my preference for danceable songs about sad things, this pop track about childhood neglect is an earworm and a half. I really want to see this guy blow the fuck up. Go follow him, please.

Hang in there, y'all.
